US, Iran Signal Flexibility Despite Failed Pakistan Talks

(MENAFN) The United States and Iran have indicated possible room for compromise in their diplomatic standoff, even though recent discussions held over the weekend in Pakistan did not produce a final agreement, according to reports.

People familiar with the negotiations said both sides showed some degree of flexibility during the talks, particularly on the central issue of uranium enrichment. However, the initial round of direct discussions in Islamabad concluded without a deal.

Despite the lack of agreement, further meetings are expected in the near future as both parties continue engagement, according to reports. A White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, said the next round of ceasefire-related discussions is expected to take place again in Islamabad, though neither side has officially confirmed details of the progress.

A key sticking point in the negotiations remains Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, which Washington has made a central demand in any long-term settlement of the conflict that began on Feb. 28.

The stockpile, estimated at around 450 kilograms enriched to 60%, is believed to be stored at facilities that were previously struck during US-Israeli operations. U.S. officials have insisted on its removal as part of any agreement. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said Iran would either surrender the material voluntarily or face other measures to ensure its transfer.

President Donald Trump has also called for a long-term freeze on Iran’s enrichment activities and the complete removal of enriched material from Iranian territory as part of a broader settlement framework.
